Darla Nebel is a dedicated member of the Bledsoe-Bulas VFW Auxiliary 6133 in Owensville, Missouri, representing District 9. She joined the Auxiliary in August 2005 on the eligibility of her grandfather, Thomas Woodrow Russell, a United States Army veteran who served honorably in Germany during World War II. Her grandfather was a Purple Heart recipient and the sole survivor of his foxhole during the historic Battle of the Bulge, a profound legacy of sacrifice and resilience that deeply inspires Darla’s commitment to veterans.

Professionally, Darla has devoted 18 years of service to the St. James Veterans Home, where she currently works in the Activities Department. She finds immense reward in bringing joy and putting smiles on the faces of the residents every day, seamlessly blending her career with her passion for serving those who served.

Darla has been happily married to her wonderful husband, Bruce Nebel, an Army veteran, for 17 years; the couple connected when Darla was bartending at the Cuba VFW. She is blessed with her son, Kevin, and his loving wife, Brandy, and is a proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Emma, Noah, Carter, and Jimmy. In her free time, Darla enjoys relaxing at home with her beloved fur babies, her dog Lucy and her cat Lulu.
