HOSPITAL PROGRAM

Volunteering at our veterans' hospitals is more than just giving your time; it is a profound way to ensure that the hands that once defended our freedom are held, supported, and never forgotten in their hour of need.

As one of the VFW Auxiliary's oldest initiatives, the Hospital Program has championed the care of veterans and their families since the national organization’s inception in 1914. This enduring program promotes volunteerism across generations, engaging members, non-members, youth, and families to serve in VA and non-VA medical facilities, clinics, veterans' homes, and nursing homes. During the 2025–2026 program year alone, the Department of Missouri Hospital Program saw nearly 2,500 dedicated volunteers contribute more than 12,700 hours of service and over $117,500 in gifts and donations.

To honor this incredible commitment, volunteers are recognized by the Program Chairman with VFW Auxiliary Hospital Volunteer Service Pins and Bars, sponsored hospital Volunteer Pins, and Hospital Recruiter Charms. Furthermore, the Department of Missouri proudly recognizes the vital contributions of at-home volunteers, celebrating those who dedicate their time to sewing and crafting essential comfort items for local VA Medical Centers, nursing homes, and outpatient clinics with hour pins and charms.
