YOUTH ACTIVITIES PROGRAM

Nurturing patriotism in our youth today to inspire compassionate leaders, dedicated citizens, and grateful communities of tomorrow.

The VFW Auxiliary Youth Activities Program is dedicated to fostering patriotism, civic responsibility, and a love of country among younger generations. To achieve this, the program actively collaborates with a wide variety of youth groups, including sports teams, faith-based organizations, after-school programs, school clubs, home-school associations, and community service departments in high schools and colleges. By partnering with these local groups, the Auxiliary recognizes and rewards young citizens for their service projects and efforts honoring veterans, active-duty service members, and military families, helping ensure that community service becomes a natural part of their daily lives.

A major focus of the program is encouraging creative and educational engagement with American heritage. This includes conducting the Illustrating America Art Contest, a patriotic art competition for students in grades K–8 divided into three grade divisions (K–2, 3–5, and 6–8) that recognizes and rewards national winners for their artistic interpretations of the world. The program also promotes Patriotism through Literacy by introducing youth to historical figures and pivotal moments in our nation's history using a curated, grade-appropriate suggested book list. Additionally, the program features the Random Acts of Patriotism (R.A.P.) initiative, which uses specialized R.A.P. cards to provide fun, immediate recognition for elementary-age children and younger when they are spotted thanking a veteran, properly placing their hand over their heart during the Pledge of Allegiance, or engaging in other patriotic deeds.
